If you live in Tampa, you should know how to dance salsa. Or maybe you know already, and just want to get better. Either way, the friendly and supportive team led by Juan Tato Paredes takes newbies and seasoned salseras/os through the motions, creating community along the way. The fairly priced, hour-long classes start with salsa count (1, 2, 3, x, 5, 6, 7, x) and basic steps. Each following week, the footwork gets more complicated. Soon enough, you’re moving with the beat. Or trying. Growing in confidence either way. Halfway through the hour, the class divides into followers and leads, shifting partners until every individual has practiced with at least half the room. Every night you leave the studio laughing, saying goodnight to new friends, feeling like you have just survived boot camp for the painfully shy.
